CPEC Summit: Ministry for logistic, transport proposed

Karachi: During the two-day China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Summit and Expo, the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (FIATA) President Babar Badat demanded that a separate ministry should be made for logistics and transport, reported a news source. Presiding over the “Logistics” section during the last day of the summit, Badat said that the proposed ministry will help facilitate rapid growth of and ensure quick solutions for the industry.
He added that the proposed bill presented recently in the National Assembly with respect to logistics does not meet present-day challenges, and there are considerable lags with this unit falling under different ministries. Badet and International Chamber of Commerce Chairman Tariq Rangoonwala are of the view that Pakistan should become the hub for trans-shipment trade, which can only happen if a separate ministry for this is made.
