CDA cracks down against illegal guesthouses

Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority has cracked down against illegal guesthouses in Islamabad, the number of which has increased to 140, according to a news report. The practice of the use of residential property as guesthouses continues despite CDA having put a ban on it in 2015.
The CDA had sealed a couple of these some years ago, however, it has now decided to restart its operations as per the statement by CDA Building Control Director Faisal Naeem. The CDA’s legal wing has allowed the building control section to go ahead with their operation, even though a guesthouses association has filed a case before the Supreme Court, pleading that no action be taken against them.
The authority had previously adopted a discriminatory approach towards closing down the guesthouses. An official believes that the CDA needs to close down guesthouses sector by sector in order to remove all illegal guesthouses from the area. However, the building control director has now said that strict action would be taken against all in breach of the law.
