PKR 100 billion allocated for Diamer-Basha and Dasu dams

Islamabad: The State Minister for Finance Rana Muhammad Afzal Khan has told the Senate that PKR 100 billion has been allocated for the construction of Diamer-Basha and Dasu dams in the Budget 2018-19. Opposition Leader Sherry Rehman and the Finance Minister discussed the matter on the floor.
The Minister, in reply to Rehman’s query, stated that huge amounts of water were being wasted in the country because of no dams. He said the money has been allocated, now it is the duty of the next government to build the dams.

Earlier Rehman had demanded that a parliamentarians’ caucus be set up to watch over water issues and any recommendations offered for it. She also stated that the country’s first water policy has been signed by all provinces and it is essential for better management of Pakistan’s water resources so it could be ensured that future generations do not face issues due to global warming and climate change.
