PFC urges government to increase investment opportunities in forestry

Islamabad: The Pakistan Furniture Council (PFC) has urged that the government should spend more money in forestry so that  the imports of softwood can be reduced, according to a news report. The reduced imports of softwood are expected to help save billions of rupees in the form of foreign exchange.

The PFC Chief Executive Mian Kashif Ashfaq has said that Pakistan is importing more than 75% of its total consumption of softwood, because of which it is spending billions of dollars in foreign exchange. He added that only 25% of total demand is met by domestic production and there are various investment opportunities in the forestry sector in South Punjab, where the government can do much to strengthen this sector.
