Islamabad: The World Bank is to assist Pakistan for the expansion of economic activity with Afghanistan through the construction of Khyber Pass, according to a news story. The World Bank Country Director for Pakistan Ilango Pathamuthu has said that this corridor will support trade between Pakistan and Afghanistan through regional connectivity and private sector development.
He has labelled this as an important component of Pakistan’s growth policy and for infrastructural development. This will be constructed at a cost of USD 460.6 million and benefit consumers, producers, and traders in Pakistan and throughout Central Asia by reducing transport time and cost as well as increasing avenues for private-sector investment. Through this pass, the private sector in Khyber Agency will also be strengthened by increasing access to socio-economic and job opportunities.
The route will also enable Afghan medical patients and students to easily enter Pakistan.
