5 lakes you must visit in Pakistan

Pakistan has been blessed with almost every type of terrain and weather. Thus, it is no surprise that we have some of the most beautiful lakes in the world, among a multitude of wonderful tourist destinations. For all of you planning that summer vacation, these lakes are worth considering. Most of these are in the Northern areas, so pack your jackets and get ready to admire these gorgeous lakes.
  1. Saif-ul-Mulook
This is the first name that comes to mind when it comes to lakes in Pakistan, and this fame is well-deserved. Located near Naran at an altitude of 3,224 metres, it is one of the highest lakes in the country and is a favourite tourist spot. Legend has it that the lake was formed when a Persian prince wept at not being able to be with his beloved fairy princess. We don’t know about that, but it surely looks like a place where fairies could live.
  1. Shangrila
Shangrila is Chinese for heaven on earth, and once you visit this lake, you’ll understand why it has been named so. This tranquil lake is located just 20 minutes away from Skardu and is surrounded by some of the most gorgeous scenery one could imagine. So, you can easily make it a vacation destination and enjoy the lake and the resort.
  1. Rush Lake
Located 5,098 metres above sea level, Rush Lake is the highest lake in Pakistan and can be reached via Nagar and Hopar after crossing the Hopar Glacier. This lake is not really suited for families with children, as you have to trek to reach it. For everyone else, the views on the trek and the lake and its breathtaking surroundings are experiences that you will remember your whole life.
  1. Attabad Lake
Attabad Lake is a unique wonder as it was created very recently in 2010 after a landslide. It is also called Gojal Lake, as it is located in Gojal Valley in Hunza. It has roadside stalls, beautiful views, and also has seasonal boating activities, so if you’re planning to go to Hunza this summer, do make a stop here. Interesting fact: Until just a year or two ago when a marvelous tunnel was built to connect the opposite sides of the lake, any person or vehicle wanting to cross the lake would have to be ferried across. Going through the tunnel itself is an invigorating experience.
  1. Keenjhar Lake
Moving to the south, Keenjhar Lake is the second largest freshwater lake in Pakistan and is located in Thatta District, Sindh. Just over 120 kilometres away from Karachi, it is the perfect day trip spot for people from Karachi, Hyderabad, and other places nearby. Here, families can enjoy boating, swimming, fishing, and picnics. In addition, there is a shrine dedicated to the legendary Sindhi figure Noor Jam Tamachi in the middle of the lake.
So, here were just a few of the marvelous lakes we have in Pakistan. So, put them on your summer vacation itinerary and enjoy the beauty the country has to offer.
