Agricultural research project promises a green era ahead for Thar

Islamabad: An agricultural research project for improvement in the agricultural sector of Thar and Omer Kot has been kicked off, a news source quoted Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) Chairman Dr. Yousaf Zafar. The five-year project is expected to bring about an agricultural revolution in the area with the allocated funds of PKR 520.9 million.
During a visit of PARC Centre in Omer Kot, where Zafar was accompanied by National Argricultural Research Centre Director General (DG) Dr. Ghulam Muhammad Ali Southern-zone Agricultural Research Centre DG Dr. Asim Rehan Kazmi, he said that a lab will be set up in the desert regions of Pakistan under this project. This facility will conduct research on agricultural promotion under the climate conditions specific to the region, as well as work on the diagnosis of certain diseases in animals.
A seminar of food shortage in Thar was also organised where important dignitaries from PARC, SARC, NARC and faculty members of the Sindh Agricultural University were briefed on the issue.
