Auto assemblers won’t sell to non-filers of taxes

Karachi: Two leading Japanese car assemblers in Pakistan, Pak Suzuki Motor Company Ltd (PSMCL) and Indus Motor Company (IMC) have halted any new bookings of vehicles from non-filers, according to a news report. This has come following the provisions under the Finance Act 2018 which disallows non-filers of income tax returns from booking and registering new vehicles from 1st July 2018.
The IMC urged the people to change their status as tax filers in a public notice a few days ago, as many people who had previously booked their cars didn’t have their names in the Active Tax Payers’ List. For deliveries scheduled during June and currently due balance payments, assemblers have asked the authorised dealers to contact every customer individually to inform them about the procedures. Failure to do so would result in delayed deliveries and even cancellation.
For vehicle deliveries scheduled for July and onwards, all dealers have been asked to approach each customer to ask them to file their taxes.
