Islamabad: The Council of Common Interests (CCI) has decided to defer the final validation for the results of sixth National Housing and Population Census onto the new government, a news source reported. Prime Minister (PM) Shahid Khaqan Abbasi chaired the meeting of CCI at the PM House.
The meeting was also attended by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo, along with chief secretaries and senior officials. Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak couldn’t attend the meeting due to other engagements.
It was agreed to allow the new government with fresh consensus to coordinate and decide the matter after coordination with new provincial governments.
Officials from the Ministry of Water Resources also briefed the meeting about the current status of water in the country. Provincial and federal representatives of the Indus River System Authority (IRSA) were also present.
To resolve the water conflicts, CCI decided to form a committee to resolve the matter. The committee would be headed by the attorney general of Pakistan with representation for each province. The committee will submit its report in the next meeting.
