Lahore: The Punjab Food Authority is collaborating with Lahore Municipal Authority for a unique roadside food stall project, for which Akhuwat, a private organization, will grant interest-free loans to food vendors, reported a news source. In this regard, the authority has prepared four model food stalls for fresh juices, fruit chaat and dahi bhalay, shawarmas, and burgers.
The project was proposed some months ago by PFA Director General Noor-ul-Amin Mengal for curbing the practice of selling food items cooked, prepared and sold from unhygienic food stalls. At the moment, Lahore has over 70,000 road-side food stalls selling unhygienic food items.
One food stall is expected to cost PKR 30,000 to PKR 40,000, for which Akhuwat will grant interest-free loans on easy terms and conditions. These food stalls will also help make Lahore look more beautiful. The PFA has also indicated that it will give special training to those looking to own such a stall.
