Islamabad: Under the Prime Minister’s programme for Green Pakistan, 24.7 million saplings have so far been planted in 100 districts throughout the country, while 20.11 million new plants have been made ready for plantation, reported a news source. The target to achieve by 2021 is the plantation of 100 million plants in the country.
Spanning five years, the project will cost PKR 3.65 billion, out of which the federal government will generate 56% of the total funds required, while the provinces are to arrange the remaining funds. So far, funds worth PKR 940.34 million have been released for the project.
As per the project plan, provinces are to plant trees along 1,000 kilometres of road avenues and also along the canals. While in Islamabad, saplings are to be planted in Margalla Hills, Shakarparian, Golra Shareef, Saidpur, Bari Imam, Noorpur Shahan, and Kashmir Highway.
