Lahore: The Environment Protection Department Punjab has decided to put a ban on societies that do not set up waste water treatment plants, reported a news source. The decision has been taken on directions given by the Government of Punjab.
In this regard, the EPD director general has sent notices to the managements of all housing societies in Punjab. The builders and developers breaching this law will be dealt with legally. For this purpose, the respective district officers have also been given the instructions.
The waste water of housing societies in Punjab is a serious hazard to the agriculture sector, marine creatures, and also to the life of people.
As per the rules specified by the EPD, it is mandatory for all housing societies to get an approval from the department for setting up water treatment plants, but dozens of housing societies in Lahore alone do not have such plants in place.
A spokesperson of the Government of Punjab also instructed the plot owners looking to construct their homes in a housing society to build separate water tanks in their houses.
