Multan: A project to replace rusted sewerage lines at a cost of PKR 2.16 billion has been approved by the Government of Punjab, a news source quoted the Water and Sanitation Authority WASA Managing Director Muhammad Qasim. The project is to stop incidents of crown failure of the sewage pipes and help prevent related accidents.
Under this project, 148-kilometre long sewerage lines will be replaced, and this was identified by the National Engineering Services Pakistan in the 25-year master plan for Multan. The master plan also includes recommendations for adding a 72-inch trunk sewer to the system. These lines will be replaced phase-wise on a priority basis, where the most worn-out lines will be replaced first.
According to Qasim, 50-kilometer long sewerage lines have already been replaced at a cost of PKR 1 billion under the first phase of this project.
