Karachi: A Chinese company has applied to National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) for setting up a municipal solid waste power plant, a news source reported. The company Lahore Xingzhong Renewable Energy is a subsidiary of Chengdu Xingrong Environmental Co.
The cost of power plant is projected to USD 140 million. The plant will be finished and begin generating electricity by April 2021.
Nepra in January introduced a level tariff of USD 0.10 per kilowatt-hour for municipal solid waste power plants for the next twenty-five years. Meanwhile, the production capacity for solid waste power plants has been restricted to 250 MW throughout Pakistan. Each province and federal territory will share 50 MW each.
