Protection of agro-economy demanded in laying down of TAPI pipeline

Lahore: Experts have called for the protection of Punjab’s agro-economy in the laying down of the TAPI pipeline, according to a news source. This demand was made at a provincial scoping workshop held on Thursday for the evaluation of Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) of the 825-kilometre Pakistan section of the pipeline.
This pipeline will pass through 17 districts of Pakistan, 9 in Punjab, and the rest in Baluchistan. This workshop was organised by the Environmental Management Consultants (EMC) Pakistan and was attended by various consultants and companies involved in the mega-project. The provincial Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Director General pledged full cooperation on behalf of the Punjab Government at this workshop. The route of the TAPI pipeline will be confirmed once the ESIA study report is submitted to the Pakistan and Afghanistan governments.
