Karachi: Cement sales have increased to almost 43 million tonnes in the first 11 months of the current fiscal year, according to a news report. Consumption in the northern areas of the country has increased by 16.76%, from the last fiscal year, whereas, dispatches in the South have grown at a rate of 12.12%. Cement exports have increased by 0.69%, standing at 4.348 million tonnes.
During May 2018, cement despatches stood at 3.919 million tonnes, as compared to 3.708 million tonnes during May 2017. Domestic despatches in the Northern region were 2.812 million tonnes, as against 2.811 million tonnes in May 2017. Despatches in the Southern region were 0.669 million tonnes during May 2018, as compared to 0.588 million tonnes in the same month last year.
With construction activities slow during Ramazan, it is expected that the local consumption would increase again, once Ramazan ends.
