Karachi: The people of Karachi observed World Environment Day by planting trees, according to a news report. The Sindh Inspector General of Police AD Khawaja announced that every police officer in the province would be required to plant a sapling and take care of it until it matured into a fully grown tree. He also cited that trees shouldn’t be cut as they contribute to climate change.
A delegation from the International Association of Lions Club, headed by Malik Khuda Bux presented over 1,200 tree saplings to the Sindh Police for planting. Personnel of Pakistan Navy also planted saplings to mark World Environment Day. The Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi said that the navy was celebrating the day to promote awareness of protecting marine environment.
