Islamabad: All agro farms are required to have a covered area of 9,500 ft2 as per the regulations of the Supreme Court, according to a news report. The SC has also directed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to take action against farmhouses built on land in excess of this area.
Previously, the CDA had asked for some relief from this limitation, but the SC rejected this plea. In some places, the allottees of land had built bungalows on the land given to them for farming. During the hearing of this case, the Chief Justice pointed out that a lot of allottees were using this land for purposes other than gardening and farming. The SC also asked CDA why it had allowed a covered area of 12,500 ft2 earlier.
Originally, this land was given to the people displaced by the establishment of this city, in order to rehabilitate them and allow for continued agricultural productivity. The SC took notice of more land being allotted by the CDA and asked to revert back to the original bylaws of limiting land to 4,850 ft2. The CDA Building Control Director Faisal Naeem has said that all structures built on land in excess of 4,850 ft2 would be destroyed within six months, and additional charges would be levied on those who want to build basements in their farmhouses.
