Date Palm trees to be planted in Southern Punjab

Lahore: The Punjab Agricultural Department (PAD) has launched the Date Palm Valley project in Southern Punjab, according to a news report. The project is to cost PKR 780 million, and is aimed at transforming nine districts of South Punjab.
In a statement, an official from PAD highlighted that the annual date production in the country has gone up significantly, and that foreign exchange amounting to PKR 300 million is earned from date exports. Hence, the Agriculture Department has decided to initiate a five-year project aimed at distributing and planting date palm varieties of Ajwa, Barhee, Amber, Khulas, and Midjaul in nine areas of South Punjab.
