Lahore: The Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif successfully marked the trial for Orange Line Metro Train on 16th May 2018, according to a news report. He boarded the metro train from Islam Park Station to Lakshmi Chowk. Present at the occasion were the Chinese consul general, ministers, assembly members, and a large number of bystanders.
The total length of this track is 27.12 kilometres long, out of which 25.4 kilometres are elevated, while 1.72 kilometres have been constructed underground. The track has 26 stations, 24 out of which have been constructed at a height of 12 metres. There are a total number of 27 trains, each with five bogies. The project is expected to facilitate over 500,000 daily passengers.
Construction work on the project began during 2015, and is being carried out in different packages. Almost 94% of work has been completed on Package-I from Dera Gujran to Chauburji, 84% work on Package-II from Chauburji to Ali Town, 89% work on Package-III depot, and 91% work on Package-IV stabling yard has been completed so far.
