Safe public transport for women project launched in Lahore

Lahore: The Punjab Women Development Department has launched a pilot project for safe public transport for women in collaboration with UN Women, according to a news report. This project is aimed at providing safe public transportation facilities for women.
The two also organised a training session to enhance women’s capacity on gender concerns and also provide them with safe public places in Punjab. It also educated the participants on how to deal with issues of harassment.
This two-day training session was attended by motor mobile patrol inspectors, transport and route enforcement inspectors, ticket checkers, fare collectors, drivers and various other people. This training was aimed at broadening understanding among the participants about gender equality, gender-based violence, and dealing with complaints of harassment at public transport facilities.

The project was mainly aimed at strengthening the capacity of the staff as per the provisions under the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) and Universal Declaration on Human Rights (UDHR).
