Islamabad: The deadline for completion of the Metro Bus from Peshawar Morr project to the Islamabad International Airport has been extended to August 2018, according to a news report. The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) met with Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Sartaj Aziz, and cleared a position paper on the changes needed for the project because of which it has been further delayed.
The project has already missed three deadlines. This time, it has been delayed because of inconsistencies in planning regarding whether the project will have four or five lanes on either side.
This time, the party has decided that instead of five lanes on either side, a proposal which was amounting to PKR 16.43 billion, four lanes will be built on either side of the corridor extending Metro Bus from Golra Morr to GT Road. The CDWP has recommended that the project should be reviewed by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) and will link the new Islamabad International Airport (NIIA) to the capital.
The plan for the construction of four lanes has been acceded to by the National Highway Authority (NHA), as this will provide the right of way to passengers as well.
